Fodorites are Amazing
I've never seen more bashing and bickering on this site than I have in the past few months, but after Tuesday, its amazing how you Fodorites look out for each other. It was so nice to see messages from the regulars wanting people to check in and wanting to know if everyone was okay. I work next to the Sears Tower and our building was evacuated yesterday and that in itself was frightening. But I can't even imagine the horror of being involved directly. My prayers go out to everyone.

The horror is everywhere - called my son in N. Andover, Mass last night, half-hour north of Boston. His wife is a professor at one of the colleges there, and one of her students' Mom was a flight attendant on the first flight to hit the WTC!!! So shocked to hear that .............. It is a new day in the U.S. - things will never feel safe again, and we'll all have to learn to live differently!

Whatever you do, don't go over to the Europe board, which has disintegrated into a backbiting, nasty place. No matter how much some people try to show unity and support, there is always somebody who is so rude that it is making regular visitors ill.

We are Australians and have been caught up in the drama and horror of the past few days - especially trying to fly from various airports etc. However, we were amazed today to arrive at O'Hare to catch a flight to London and were never once searched - either us, our checked luggage or carryon. Yet earlier in the week in Calgary, Canada - every person and every thing in the terminal was thoroughly searched on various occasions. I hope it is not a sign of the times, and things are starting to get slack again already.

Youre right Fodorites are amazing in the way that they are intolerant of other peoples opinions, nasty in their remarks , and act like a bunch of wild dogs when someone makes an unpopular post.Quite frankly Iv'e never seen more bashing and bickering than in the past week. What happened to travel advice? Is this now a forum for politics, and world newsbriefs?

Wow, Amy, which site are you reading? This one is such peace and harmony for a change that I for one will never go back to my former style. Well, maybe on occasion ... but only for a good reason. Yes, people are in fact talking about travel, and about other issues ... but so what? That's what the site's for ... at least that's the way I view it. Right now, I'd prefer a humane perspective ... which is what we seem to be enjoying on this site. When people logged on and asked about our wellbeing after Tuesday, that was wonderful. Long may the new spirit last. Ciao

I was hoping no one would complain about all the divergence from travel topics. These events are TERRIBLY relevant-- not only because we all share in the horror, but also because it's impossible to think about travel without thinking about safety outside our own little nests. Add to that the personal connections built with people in the directly affected areas, and you have a good reason to share thoughts, emotions, fears, etc.
PS x-- you want to talk about bickering people coming together unexpectedly, can you say, members of Congress singing 'God Bless America'? In my wildest dreams...
