Flying to Nashville, looking for mountain cabin getaway nearby

My husband and I are looking to get away (3-4 day trip), explore nature and be alone. Looking for beautiful views, nearby hiking, and to seclude ourselves in nature. Though a short trip to town for a dinner out...might be nice.
Looking for recommendations on where best to look into, and any referrals for cabin rentals that are rustic yet charming/romantic, and clean...would be very helpful!
Will there be snow in march? We are pretty flexible as to where we go, just want that perfect quiet beautiful relaxing place to call home for a few days, in nature. Nearby water would be great too. Probably best if within 2 hours of the airport- is that possible?

Smoky Mountain National Park is a long, long way from Nashville, esp for a 3 or 4 day trip.

Nashville isn't really near any mountains, but it is in beautiful countryside. Check out Tennesse State Parks; some have lodges, some have cabins, all within a couple of hours of Nashville are scenic, none will be crowded at that time of year.

IIRC Fall Creek Falls is beautiful, Standing Stone is heavy on nature, hiking, etc.

This may be helpful. Cabins in State Parks: http://www.tn.gov/environment/parks/...k/cabins.shtml
You're more likely to find a nice cabin at the end of the road if you rent from the state than from a local hillbilly.

Within 2 hours of the Nashville airport?

Pigeon Forge and the Smokies are further than that.

One option would be to go to Chattanooga. This is a charming place on Lookout Mountain, overlooking Chattanooga -

It's not secluded but a wonderful place to stay.

If you wanted your own place, you could check VRBO for rentals on Lookout Mountain (TN or GA). Lots to see and do in the area.

"probably best" was the OP
I don't know of any mountains close to Nashville.

It's 218 miles from Nashville to Pigeon Forge. Chattanooga is 133. So another hour and your to Smoky. Either would be good though.

People don't normally fly to Nashville for Nature/Mountains, they go there for Country Music and food.
I say don't miss Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, The Hermitage(Andrew Jackson Home). Eat at The Loveless Cafe and Las Paletas(popsicles-yep they are really good). Your 212 miles from Memphis and that is a great place for BBQ and Elvis. If you want Mountains your going to have to drive 2-4 hours.

If you like caves head north to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. There are hikes there too. The cave is an ugly cave, but it is huge huge huge. They have several interesting tours. I would suggest the wild cave tour and the lantern tour. The wild cave tour is very adventurous. There are other caves in the area and the Corvette Museum and Corvette Factory tour aren't far away.

As others have mentioned there are no mountains near Nashville. I think you would enjoy the quaint town
22 miles from the Nashville airport, Franklin. Here is a link to bed/breakfast cabins, homes, etc.

I loved www.oakhavenresort.com. The cabins were gorgeous -- but there were other cabins close by. The biggest issue was terrible traffic getting from there to Gatlingburg & Pigeon Forge. Apparently, there's an alternate route -- but I didn't know about. The Smokeys are BEAUTIFUL -- and you should go -- but definitely more than 2 hours from Nashville.

If you do spend any time in Nashville and want to try authentic, regional foods (in addition to Loveless Cafe) go to Monell's. Everyone I take there loves it.

As others have said, not Nashville for mountains. Fly to Knoxville for the Smokies. The traffic will not be bad in March.
I'm not sure I agree that it wouldn't be pretty in March.
You could fly to Asheville actually and find a nice array of cabins in that area, and a good bit to do either in Asheville, or the little town that might be near your chosen place. That could be much closer, and have a good selection, without the congestion of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, etc.

Another way to do it would be to still fly into Nashville but drive in from the west - and head towards Ocoee or Tellico Plains in Tennessee = the western part of the Smokies.

I don't know of this property specifically, but it's an example of what I mean -
http://www.welcomevalleyvillage.com/

Lots of people in my area own vacation getaways in TN/ north GA - and don't ever (or very rarely) go close to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. If you are looking for a more natural/less congested area, this would work. Trails in the national forests adjacent to GSMNP but not actually IN the national park.

We're still talking a 3 hour drive - just coming in from a different direction.

wow thanks for all the feedback...i know so little about that area, obviously as i thought there were mountains nearby Nashville. lol. So the reality is we don't have to fly into nashville, it was just a thought. we can really go anywhere, just want to be somewhat near an easy to fly to airport (From Austin TX) Thoughts of Blue Ridge Mountains, TN /GA too.
Definitely want something stand alone- not near other cabins, not looking for a b&b in a small town. We really like our own space and privacy- in nature, quiet, hiking, views etc. I will check into Knoxville and Chatanoogo perhaps. If anybody has any ideas for the blue Ridge Mountains, not far from an airport...i would appreciate it!

If north GA is an option, the area around Blue Ridge is very popular and you can find your secluded cabin easily - within 1.5 hours of Atlanta.

Here's a description of the mountains -
http://blueridgemountains.com/blue_ridge_mountains.html

From the Accomodation page on that website, I found -
http://www.jwww.com/askacabin/

Check out other options there and on VRBO

The little town of Blue Ridge has several restaurants, a great community theater (that a Fodorite has been involved with) and a scenic railroad in the mountains. It's a good, non-touristy option (vs PF and Gatlinburg) but offers what you seem to want.

I will mention Asheville again. You are much more IN the mountains there. You "can" access the GSMNP there, heading toward Bryson City, but heading north or south from there along the Blue Ridge Parkway would be VERY scenic.
Tourism in March is pretty low to begin with but Pigeon forge and Gatlinburg are absolutely wall to wall kitsch.

Blue Ridge Parkway start in the Smokys and Run through Shenandoah. So, Asheville would be a good option and far closer than Nashville.
