Florida or Jamaica next week?

Please help me decide....I have tickets to Ft. Laurderdale on Sat for 6 nights. Given the fact that it's not exactly beach weather there at the moment, should we just keep on going and end up in Negril? The flight over is cheep enough and I can get a room cheep to still. I have yet to confirm a room in Ft. L. though I know I can. What would you do? We like to beach walk, shop, bar hop and such. Thanks !

If it were me, I would rent a car and drive down the Keys. It is a beautiful drive AND some great places to stay. There are some good snorkleing places before Key West. ie: Islamorada (sp?)
Do a search here (up top) on Florida Keys and see what you think.

GoTravel........The ONLY reason I'm feeling about odd about the question is because we're lucky enough to be going to JA in Feb and then again in Apri. I think we'd be happy enough with FL for those days if it was def. going to be beach weather. Whereas JA weather is looking pretty good at the moment and I'll lose a day in travel by doing so............problems, problems. To be honest, I kinda put this trip upon my wife as I just gotta get out of Chicago for a few days. She'd be happy staying home and is not wild about spending the money to go....thus I have to break into my "private stash" for this trip.

I have to admit.......that beach at Fort Laurderdale looks pretty inviting.
(at least to a Chicagoan) You're sure that's not just pre-recorded?

Sorry, I'm not talking about Ft Lauderdale. I'm talking the Keys. You drive down route 1. You can check here for current weather anywhere...http://www.worldweather.org/

Look at it this way, by April it will start warming up in Chicago and you will not appreciate the warm beaches in Jamaica as much as you can in February. February is brutal in Chicago and you will be much more thankful for Jamaica then.

See how easy that was?

I was thinking that Harbour Island in the Bahamas would be good, but the weather wouldn't me much warmer than Ft. Lauderdale.

I think a good option would be Key West.

We were to Harbor Island about 6 yrs ago before it was the "in" place. (glad we did it then too) It was a super spot but like you say....it would be about the same temp as Florida I think. Dont you think Key West would be as well? With less to do for a 12 yr old? (who's going with)

It will cost me $900 plus taxi extra to go to Jamica. But.....the hotel will be ALOT cheeper thus making it a draw money wise. Then it boils down to weather and every countable minute on the beach. I'm sorry I dont mean to be petty about this........lucky to be going anywhere I know.

We went to Jamaica in January from NYC.
I cannot tell you how lovely that was, getting off the plane, the sweet scent of the "green" air and the warmth on our skin.
Florida will never be that warm in Feb..at least, not for 6 nights unless they have a freak warm spell. And from my experience with living in Fl last year, Feb was our rainy season. Ugh..wet and cool. Go to Jamaica..there really is no comparison.
One is Jamaica, one is Florida..lol.

Scarlett.........I agree though......the aroma getting off that plane in Montego Bay is always like heaven to me. You have to experience it to know what we're talking about.
The smell of diesel, ground fires and hibiscus all melded into one wonderful hypnotic aroma......sounds awful but smells great !!!!
