Looking for great upscale recommendations with a great pool for our family of three? Will be celebrating my husbands 50th birthday (surprise trip). Our daughter is 8 years old. Would like an upscale resort with new or newly refurbished furniture/rooms. Can you please recommend anything? Thanks so much!
Or somewhere in Ft. Lauderdale!!

I love Key West, but there are really no beaches to speak of.
We did not stay here but I love the area - it is close to everything and is a great location.

There is much to do if you like snorkeling, diving, boating, historical houses (the President Truman White House, Earnest Hemingway house) and fun shopping and restaurants.

Casa Marina
I should have been more specific. After searching some more, I don't think we will go all the way down to the Florida Keys. Maybe Islamorada and or Key Largo.
Was thinking Cheeca Lodge. What do you think?
Thanks for opinions.
I would suggest www.themooringsvillage.com as a better choice for your family trip... have a look at the website
I think you'd be happy with either Cheeca Lodge or the Moorings Village. I haven't been to Cheeca Lodge in years, but I think I remember there being several programs for young people, so that might suit your family better.
Cheeca sounds like a great spot for your celebration. There is a restaurant across the street - Morada Bay Beach Cafe - that would be perfect for the birthday dinner. Get there before sunset, have a drink and then dine. If you can, buy a glow stick or two from the local dive shop. Lots of fun on the beach.
Hawks Cay is a possibility.
Tranquility Bay in Marathon is another.
