Florida Keys- Any nice beaches?

Are there any nice beaches, in the Florida Keys, that have attractive (but not ultra-delux lodging)? I have been looking on line and some of the reviews of moderate lodgings are pretty scary.

Thank you

I only know Bahia Honda park. We camped in our tent. The beach is gorgeous there.

The Florida Keys are not known for their beaches. There are some nice ones though. As suze mentioned Bahia Honda State Park has one of the best if not the best beach in the keys, but no deluxe lodging unless you bring your own deluxe RV.

Some of the resorts in the keys have made their own sand beaches, and while they are nice they are small.

Fort Zachary Taylor in Key West has the best beach in Key West, but it is at a park and is only for day use, not even camping.

Thank you both for your help! I had heard that the Keys were not known for their beaches but having only been there once, I did not want to insult anyone if it was not true.

Suze- How was your camping experience? I would love to learn more. What you thought of the facilities, if it was noisy, what are the best spots, etc. Also, is the water nice to go swimming about in. I think that I saw somewhere that there are (simple) cabins there. Do you know if this is true? And if so, what they are like?

Thank you!!

Oh, well, I just looked up the cabins and they are fully booked.

But there are tent camp sites available.. I will have to find out if we will have access to tents while we are there.

Frommer's recommends Parmer's. Is it near Bahia Honda? Any thoughts on Parmer's? I am correct to assume that there is not a beach at Parmer's?

Sombrero Beach in Marathon is a nice beach. No hotels on the beach.

In Key West, Casa Marina, Westin and Pier House all have small private beaches. Nice hotels and pleasant settings. Don't be thinking Daytona Beach. The public beach is along Atlantic Blvd.

No. All beaches rocky, but good to catch rays.
