Florida Family Getaway
We are planning on celebrating our father/grandfather's birthday in Florida. We are a group of mxed ages from 13+. We are looking for a resort that offers swimming, fishing, golf. We will be there around Thanksgiving.

People need more detail than you have provided to be able to help you.
How many total people?
Where are you coming from?
How long do you plan to stay?
Do you have an idea about exact dates?
What is your budget?
Does "swimming" mean in a pool, at a beach, both?
Does "fishing" mean freshwater or saltwater (and if the latter ,from a pier or a charter boat)?
Do you want hotel rooms. condos, houses?
The more detail you provide, the more helpful people can be.

Not knowing what part of Florida or price it is difficult to make recommendations. The Don Cesar is a great location in St Pete Beach. It is pricey however: http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Don-Ce...0cesar%20hotel
The Tradewinds is also located there and not as pricey. You can check their reviews if interested in the location.

Here's more info. There are about 10 people -- 2 seniors, 2 in their 20's, couples in their 50's and 2 teens. We are thinking about 4 days in southeast or southwest FL. Resort/ hotel-- no houses. We would prefer swimming in pool & beach. Fishing-- either freshwater or saltwater. Thanks.

I just recommended Sandestin resort in Destin, FL on another thread. This might be good for your group too. It is in the heart of Destin, where you can find every activity you might desire. In Sandestin alone there are restaurants, pools, shops, and a golf course. It's on the beach and there are also lakes. Within the property is Baytowne, a retail area with zip lines and restaurants and shops and other beachy things to do. Fun for all ages. Golf carts and shuttles can take you all over the property or you can drive your car. I think best bet for a large family.

NewbE, Destin is a bit farther north than St. Pete Beach. Locals most certainly don't go swimming in the Gulf in late November, when the water temperature is likely to be around 70F.
Granted, that's warmer than in Maine (even in summer!), but it's colder than the summer temps of the low to mid 80s.

Ah--now I see that the reference to Destin came immediately before your post, Cranachin. I read your comment as referring to the entire length of the Gulf Coast, when it clearly did not. Sorry to have been argumentative with you.

Daytona Beach will probably be your best bet, you can also visit st augustine when your in Daytona, thanksgiving weekend usually is cheaper on hotels since most people stay at home, look at travelzoo.com and hotels.com, and reviews from trip advisor is pretty accurate
