FLORIDA - Need lodging advice in the Deerfield Beach/Cooper City area
Good morning Fodorites!
On December 3, my husband is traveling cross country from CA to FL to go to an old friend's daughter's Bat Mitzvah. He's flying in/out of Ft. Lauderdale (only $196 r/t on American -- WOO HOO!!!)
The family lives in Cooper City and the blessed event is in Deerfield Beach.
What are your suggestions on hotels/motels for $100 or less per night? The family has reserved a block of rooms at the Embassy Suites for $159/179 per night, depending on view. I think that's still high, considering he's traveling alone and doesn't need the "suite".
He won't have lots of free time to sightsee, so convenience seems to be the priority.
Thanks.

Cooper City and Deerfield Beach are about 30 minutes apart (depending on I-95 traffic). Does you DH want to stay closer to Cooper City or Deerfield? Will he have a car? How many nights for hotel? Let me know and I'll do some checking for you. BTW, I live in Cooper City.

Hi Poochie! Love the name! What a kind offer.
DH needs a room for 2 nights -- a fri and sat. He will have a car and I don't think he cares which city.
I just tried (and lost) bidding on Priceline for a $50 4* in the Deerfield/Boca area. Wow, I'm cheap!
Let me know your suggestions, and thanks a million!

I checked the Hilton Deerfield Beach/Boca. The have a web rate of $72.00. It is available on your dates.
This hotel is right off of I-95 in Deerfield. I stayed there many years ago. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I forgot to add that the reason I'm leaning towards Deerfield is that Cooper City is just a quiet bedroom community and we really don't have any hotels. It would be much easier for your DH to stay closer to I-95, i.e. going to and from the airport etc. Where in Deerfield is the party? Where is the synagogue?

Poochie has a good point, I don't recall any hotels in Cooper City, either. The closest ones would be either the Best Western Rolling Hills (I know someone who recently booked this room for $89 by calling the hotel directly), it's not far from Cooper City if you want to be near your friends. Also, another close hotel you can bid on through Priceline is the 4* Ft Laud West/Plantation category and if you win, you'll get The Renaissance, probably for well under $100/nt. In June I booked a room for my sister and got it for $50/nt plus about $15 (max) in Priceline fees. This is a very nice hotel at the corner of I-595 and Pine Island Road.
I don't know much about the Deerfield area hotels, so I'd stick with Poochie's recommendations.

Well, I did end up getting the Renaissance in Boca Raton for $50/nt. on Priceline. I'm hoping for the bes, as the reviews on Tripadvisor are mised. Apparently, they're having some kind of mold problem in at least some of the rooms.
Thanks to all who gave advice.
