flight to Kauai--should I book now?
We are going to Kauai the 2nd week of June (6th - 13th) for our honeymoon. I can't wait! Reading all the wonderful things about Kauai on this forum has gotten me really excited. My question is:
Should I just go ahead and book now? Flights from Seattle are around $700 right now. Or, is it likely prices will drop? I've been watching prices for a few months and they haven't changed.

Yes, book now. It only gets more expensive. Last year we paid $700 in Jan. to get to Kauai in the summer. It went to $850 when there were still seats left. Look at a flight, then check the seat availability now to give you an idea. If you were looking for two seats together or a window or aisle, they go first, and the seat in the middle is what is left.

I wouldn't wait much longer. We booked our flights for June back in December when there were still a few bargains around. ($456/pp from Philadelphia) With the current fuel prices I can't see airfares dropping between now and the summer travel season.

I had been watching airfare out of orlando since june 2005. I signed up with airfare watchdog and got an email about a sale out of Atlanta to Honolulu for 356.00 RT. Booked for June 2006 right away and next day it was 800.00. Had to use some rewards points to get to Atlanta, but what a deal!

I've been look for tickets from SEA -> LIH for May 28 - Jun 1 and had been expecting to see a dip in airfare to $500. Typically up until the third week in June is slow and in the past I've seen the airlines discount fares *if* they have a lot of unsold seats. But since it sounds like you would want to go anyway then I would recommend not playing chicken with the airlines and just get your tickets. I do think that there might be another sale for that time mid april to may but who knows. FWIW, I snagged a $437 fare from LAX to LIH and used free RT vouchers from SEA to LAX for my time.
Also, are you willing to travel to Portland and fly from there ? I just checked and Hawaiian air has fares under $600. I've flown from Portland and Vancouver, BC before to save $100/ticket - it adds up when the whole family goes.
Enjoy your trip !!

Are you checking prices with consolidators such as onetravel.com AND aggregatros such as www.itasoftware.com? If not, you should be.

Book now! 10 of us are going the last week of June. 8 of us purchased our tickets around New Year's for $539 LAX to LIH. The other 2 are now scrambeling to find decent times and their cost will be at least $200 pp more.

RIGHT NOW is the time to start looking and buying. A fare sale has started with good prices from SEA and Portland to Hawaii. One thing you should investigate is separating the mainland to honolulu segment from the honolulu to lihue segment. Interisland fares have now dropped to about $40 each way and so you might do better buying separately. Mesa just announced service in Hawaii so check them too. The headline fare from Portland to Honolulu was $340 or so. I'd love to see you get something in the $400s though you might need to be flexible with the dates. I wish I had waited until now to get my tickets

I second the question to Curt...why not United? We chose to use them b/c their options for upgrades were better than anyone else's...We paid a bit more but for the chance to upgrade it was worth it...

If your dates are flexible Aloha and Hawaiian are starting their summer fare wars. Two years ago we bought are tickets about 6 months in advance and saw the price drop $100 apiece one month before we left. We contacted the airline and recieved vouchers for the difference.
