Fishing: weekend from San Francisco

After a fantastic trip to N. California and Washington (trip report being posted in pieces!) our children are hooked (sorry for the pun!) on fishing. They did some trout fishing in a beautiful creek near Republic, WA with significant success and want to do it again.
It's our 16 year old son's birthday August 21st and he wants to go away for a weekend and be able to fish.
Does anyone has any suggestions? And if so of places to stay? (Up to $200/night)
It needs to be within a 3 hour drive of San Francisco (we live in Palo Alto).
I thought about Coloma but can't find anything about fishing in that area?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I see from searching there is absolutely zilch on fishing in the California forums!
