Hi, You should check out bobstrophycharters.com. On their website they give you all the options you could want as well as prices. They have seats left on the boats as well as an 800#. Just call and tell them what you want and how many people. They are very nice. Don't forget to enter the haibut derby for $10/ticket for a chance to win thousands. Ask them and they will tell you about that as well.Good luck and have fun

We just spent two nights in Homer because I heard (via a Rick Steves podcast on Alaska) that it was so great and unique. Well it was one of our favorite places on our Alaskan adventure and fishing in Homer via a private charter for our family of five was a definite highlight for all of us! There are so many charters based out of there, so I started my research by cross-referencing the listing of fishing charters via the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game/Hunting and only looked into those charters that scored a full five star rating for safety. Then I researched multiple charter websites and since we had three children with us, I chose a charter run by a man who was five star rated, has kids of his own, and really seemed to be a nice fit for us. Talking on the phone with him cemented my decision because he was so down-to-earth and nice. He was fantastic and we had the best day fishing for halibut and rockfish with him. He runs a 6-person boat, so that made it just perfect for us. Poi Boy fishing with Kent Haina. He was awesome!

We used Bob's trophy charters, and booked the wave dancer for a combo trip (salmon and halibut). There were only 4 of us the day of our charter, so the boat felt very spacious. We had a great time, and found the folks at Bob's to be pleasant and easy to deal with. And we caught 1 king salmon and our limit of 4 halibut. I had 45 lbs of fish shipped home!

My group of 3 just returned from a week of fishing on the Kenai Peninsula and we booked with Silver Fox Charters out of Homer for a Lingcod/Halibut combo trip (over 10 hrs on the water). This is fairly serious fishing as it takes almost 2.5 hrs to just get out to the large lingcod.

Our boat of 6 anglers limited out on lingcod (2/pp) ranging from 25-60 lbs. We also limited out on halibut (2/pp) with the largest at 150 lbs and another surprise catch (in lingcod grounds) at 70 lbs. The rest were 12-18 lb range in an area nicknamed the chicken farm as it almost feels like harvesting the smaller halibut -- it's almost ridiculously easy (but very physically taxing to crank up the little ones with the large weights you're using!) However, after almost 9 hrs out on the water with the 150# and 70# on board, we headed here on our way back in to Homer. These smaller halibut are actually much tastier than the larger trophies and we opted to keep all our small ones and traded with the local family we were fishing with who needed to stock their freezer and had plenty of friends to share the large catch with.

I plan to write a trip report on our 10 days of fishing the Kenai Peninsula (we just brought home 270 lbs of sockeye, king salmon, lingcod, and halibut) but i just wanted to add this info as Captain Jim (Craddock?) was the best we've ever fished with in all the charters we've ever done whether in S. California, Islamorada in the Florida Keys, and throughout the Caribbean. When we return to Alaska, we're looking for him regardless of what charter he's working for...

We went out of nearby Ninilchik

Your limit of halibut is 2 per person, so a whole day might be a little much unless you want to do a lot of catch and release, and then have the fishing turn bad before you keep your second (after you have kept two, you are done)
