First week of May - Oregon Coast

Have last week April and first week May off. Due to health issues, might have to cancel a trip to the Caribbean. If so, would consider going to the Oregon coast. What's the weather generally like then?

Not like the Caribbean. Cool (high in mid-50's), possibly overcast and wet, but you might have nice days or nice times of the day. Definitely take warm clothes and prepare for sprinkles. Just don't expect to sit out in the sun to tan. You'll rust instead.

I don't expect it to be like the Caribbean, and I will be deeply disappointed if we have to cancel our trip to Grenada. But I'm looking for alternatives. We need a dose of being by the sea- not necessarily to sit out and tan or swim. Just need a taste of sea air!

The Oregon coast is really lovely, even if clouds are low. It can be quite dramatic, in fact. You can take long walks on the beach, rent 3 wheeled bicycles to ride on the sand, fly kites, go kayaking, and there are art galleries, light houses, trails through the cliffs, rain forests. It has a remote feeling and is a great getaway. Just don't expect great weather....The only really bad weather at the coast is serious rain. That does not happen often. In May, there should be times of deep blue in the sky, as well as clouds- high and low.

Thanks. Will keep it in mind as a back up plan in case we are unable to go to Grenada.

Warmest spot in Oregon today was Brookings. It is usually the warmest spot on the coast and if the weather is not so nice, you can go see Redwood NP just down the coast in California.

Played the course twice today huh? It is an ok course, and at least you had to sun to help offset that 50 degree weather

As the others have said, early May could be a variety of weather. Most likely not real warm, and a bit wet, but don't let that deter you unless you are looking for tropical The OR coast is beautiful any time of the year, any whether, IMO. Orcas gives a great run down on activities.

HTTY - Sometimes the only hope of having others read your "trip reports" is to post them in someone else's thread.
