First trip to Maui, Hawaii

Lucky me! I won a 7 day 6 night trip to Maui Hawaii & have never been there before. Hotel, airfare & rental car are included but I have no idea how much money I will need. I'm AAA member so I have been researching what to do, where to go etc. but still can't decide how much money I'll need. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

It all depends on what you want to see and do! If you just want to go to the beach, hang around, do a little shopping, get some sun and relax, you don't need much.

If you want to go on sunset cruises, take helicopter rides, go to a luau, see shows, and eat at fancy restaurants then you need alot more $$$ -lol!

Seriously, you could budget anywhere from I'll guess $50/day minimum to $500+/day maximum. Either could prove true.

I think the nicest areas to stay are either Kaanapali, Kapalua, Napili or Lahaina. Make sure to splurge and go to a luau. These are a little pricy, but they are well worth it and are a true hightlight. We went to Old Lahaina Luau and loved it. Make sure to make reservations in advance.

My DH and I just went to Hawaii this past Sept. Here are our top 3 favorites of our stay in Maui:

I highly recommend the Old Lahania Luau ($90per person, incl drinks, dinner and show)

We also enjoyed a full day driving and taking in all the sights on the Heavenly Road to Hana (cost of gas for rental car, take snacks or picnic lunch), can stop at Mama's Fish House for dinner on drive back from Hana, but you will need a reservation and it is pricey.

Another fun thing to do is biking down the volcano at sunrise. We used Maui Sunrise Bike Co (with the online discount it was approx $60/70 per person)

We spent two weeks and split our time between Maui and Oahu. We liked Maui the best and the only thing we did regret was not taking a day trip from Maui to see the volcanos on the Big Island.

Good Luck! You will just LOVE Maui!

I liked Haleakala sunrise, Road to Hana, Iao Valley & strolling Lahaina.

Drums of the Pacific has the best fire knife dancer on Maui. Pick a luau with a fire knife dancer. Old Lahaina Luau does not have a fire knife dancer.
