Fireworks NEAR San Francisco for July 4th
Hi,
We will be in San Francisco on July 4th for the day. We fly home early the next morning but don't have a hotel for that night yet. My question is about the fireworks. We are going to Alcatraz in the afternoon and had planned on staying near Pier 39 for fireworks.
But I see that Mountain View has fireworks with the San Francisco Symphony playing for $26- $40 dollars each at the Shoreline Ampitheatre. This sounds nice and we need to stay near the airport anyway. We will have a rental car.
Can anyone tell me if the Mountain View fireworks are just as good and less likely to have fog issues? Thanks a bunch!

Ditto, but I think it could be fun. The weather is likely to be much better in MV (both warmer and less foggy, in fact, it won't be foggy at all). I'd probably get a hotel near the airport rather than one near Mountain View. it's a straight shot up 101 from Shoreline, about 20 minutes drive (getting out of Shoreline will take at least that long, but that would be true regardless of where you stay).

Thanks mztery-I just meant it is ok to be that far south since we fly out in a.m. not that it was closer to the airport than downtown SF. In fact since we have to be at the airport at 4 a.m., we might just not get a hotel. That would be an expensive 4 hours!

I agree - do Priceline and get a cheap rate on an airport hotel. Otherwise that will be a long 5 hours waiting for morning. Normally I would say go for it and just not sleep that night, but the Peninsula is not known for late night stuff, so there will literally be nothing to do but go to the airport and hang out.
