If you live in Providence: Definitely.
If you live in Boston: Probably.
If you live in Guam: Probably not worth the trip.
My husband and I went about four years ago and really enjoyed it. There is a lot of street music/food/entertainment, so if that's the kind of thing you're looking for, I would recommend it.
Anonymous couldn't have said it any better! We enjoyed Water Fire, especially our kids, but we are from the Boston area. Probably not worth the visit if you're flying or driving a great distance, if that's the sole reason for your visit.
If you do go, the Courtyard by Marriott is in a great location. It has rooms that overlook the water park.
Check out www.waterfire.org for info on waterfire evenings.
If you are coming to the area for a reason, I would say don't miss it. It is quite moving, and the city is very festive. There are wonderful restaurants all within walking distance, and Providence is a delightful city to explore. There is a trolley that will take you to points of interest- I would suggest you go to the Providence website, and see for yourself what is there. We enjoyed waterfire very much.
