Finalizing Plans for Vegas next week -- need advice

Thanks to all the posters that have helped us with previous questions about LV (choosing a hotel and airport check-in.) Some background: it is DH first trip, we are in our late 40's-early 50's, and aren't big gamblers. We arrive via Delta at 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 26, and depart at 11:00 pm on Friday, December 30. We hope to see a show on either Tuesday or Wednesday night and take an all take bus tour to the Grand Canyon on Thursday. We will sight see and do a little gambling in between. Since we have to check out of the hotel (Flamingo) on Friday morning, how do you suggest we occupy ourselves until our flight leaves at 11:00 pm? Could we take in an early show? All suggestions are very much appreciated.

If you spend your whole Thursday on that long Grand Canyon trip...you will not have had time to see all that there is to see...so don't worry, you won't have trouble finding things to see and visit on Friday. Be sure to get to the airport by 9pm because that will be a very busy night for flights.

Maybe concentrate on the Flamingo end of the strip on Tues and Wed, then you can spend Friday looking at the hotels & casinos down at the south end of the strip nearer the airport...New York new York, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio.

Check your bags with the hotel bell hop so you are not dragging them all over. Pick them up when you leave for your flight.

Having just returned from my umpteenth trip to Las Vegas my advice is to relax and don't worry about having "final plans" for Friday. Vegas is all about just doing whatever the hell you want. Go see casinos that you missed earlier, Go shop at Caesars, Watch horse racing in the sports book, play craps, sit in a bar and get blitzed before your flight, Go downtown to Fremont Street, etc, etc, etc.

If you are going to spend the early evening before your flight at the MGM end of the strip or downtown then I suggest bring your bags and recheck them with the bell hop of the hotel you are near by so you don't have to backtrack just to get luggage.

Have fun!

I would kill some time with some additional shows if you are not into gambling (which is how I would kill my time).

Consider: Have a nice lunch somewhere. Mack King for an afternoon show at Harrahs. The Fab Four at 6PM at the Aladdin. Then from after that dinner and or hang out at the dueling piano bar at Harrahs, pick up your luggage and be on your way.

As a late alternative, take your luggage with you, go to Mandalay Bay and do the shark reef exhibit...plenty of good restaurants there as well. Side benefit is that you will be very close to the airport.

If you get tired and need a break, check out Luxor, they run 3-D movies there.

Friday Power Lunch at Commander's Palace (CP) would be a great way to spend a few hours. CP offers a 3-course $18.80 luncheon weekdays with martinis only 25 cents each. On Fridays a two piece Dixieland Jazz duo entertain. You could then catch Mack King. Walk over to the Bellagio for their Christmas display in the Conservatory and Botanical Garden - it is fantastic. Also stop a view the Chihuly sculpture on the ceiling near check-in. Also, visit the Jean Phillipe Patisserie for a view of the chocolate cascade, a chocolate santa in a plane sculpture and the awesome desserts. I would then take a quick stroll around the Bellagio fountains before heading to the airport.

If you have Internet access and you're reading this in time, see Broadwaybox.com/lasvegas for coupons for your Wedndesday show.
