Just managed to buy 2 tickets for Yankee/Sox game in July!! Got them on ebay Great Father's Day gift.. WOuld like some info on hotels in the area, Easy to drive to after the game. Also, local restaurants, I'll pass on Legal Seafood. There is a Holiday Inn right near the field, it looks like it is very old? Anyone familiar with it? Thank You for suggestions!

"Easy to drive to after the game"??? Ha! Seriously, there will be no where in Boston easy to drive to after the game. Take the T. "Easy to drive" and "Boston" should never be used in the same sentence. I find driving in Manhattan to be like a stroll through the countryside compared to Boston.

Last time we were in Boston, we stayed at the Newbury Guest House and walked to and from Fenway. We did not even rent a car because we walked to everything including Faneuil Hall, the Freedom Trail, the North End, the Gardner Museum, and the wedding we were going to. It's a nice smaller hotel in a great location. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were pleasant. I would definitely stay there again. I agree with Loki about driving in Boston (if you have a car, just park it and leave it), and I am from NY and now live in Chicago.

Restaurants: it really depends on what you feel like having. The South End has a number of amazing places: Truc, Hamersley Bistro, Aquatine, Rogue. There's also Teatro in the theatre district. The Bristol Lounge (Four Seasons), Jarne (Ritz) and Julien (Le Meridien) are also great restaurants. Check out Oasis Inn/B&B in the back bay. Simple rooms if you are not spending that much time there. If you want new hotels, try Nine Zero, Hotel Marlowe and XV Beacon, all amazing boutiques.

I would suggest staying in Back Bay and taking the T. We did this last year and it was great. In fact we got our rooms on priceling for a breeze.

Also I can't remember the name but there is a brewpub (boston beerwork's maybe) right across from Fenway. The line was huge before the game but we went in afterwords and it was fun.

If you like French food I just ate at the Brasserie Jo and it is great! Get the Skate. My favorite restaurant in Boston for seafood though is Kingfish Hall.

Thank you for refreshing my memory of the "easy drive/parking in Boston! What was I thinking. Is the area near Fenway Park considered the Back Bay area when choosing a hotel within walking distance? Thanks

Don'tknow what shape the Holiday Inn is next to Fenway, but it's certainly close and if you don't have to pay for parking it might be worth it because you can walk or take the T to downtown Boston. For a while they wanted the Red Sox to buy them so they could expand.. hasn't happened....yet

I wouldn't consider the area immediately around Fenway to be the Back Bay. More the Kenmore Square area--although some hotels might still call it Back Bay. To me Back Bay is the area between Arlington Street and Mass Ave. and Kenmore Square and Fenway are just beyond that. You might also find better hotel/b and b rates if you look at Brookline which is still an easy T ride to Fenway. Good Luck.

The Fenway Park area is not a nice place to stay - not awful, but full of a couple of colleges, c ollection of bars and clubs, a supermarket and some hospitals.

Stay in Back Bay or Downtown if you plan to do anything else on your trip other than the game.

my recollection is that is wasn't even easy to WALK to Fenway. I was guided there by someone who apparently has to help many fans make their way to the stadium.

Thank you for great suggestions...One more..Is it easy to use the T for getting out to Fenway from hotel by the Aquarium? I guess a cab would be crazy to even consider.

If you are staying near the Aquarium use the T from the Aquarium stop. Take the Blue Line inbound one stop to Govt Center. Change to Green Line outbound (any trolley except "E")to Kenmore Sq. Follow the crowds to Fenway Park.

A cab will just be stuck in traffic.

I know the Holiday Inn you'll be staying in if it's the one in Kenmore Square. Yes, it's old, but if you got a good rate, I'm sure you'll be comfortable. The area is absolutely fine. It is definately within walking distance to Fenway Park. It really shouldn't be more than one mile, if that. The microbrewery across from the park is a great cheap-moderate place to eat with a real Boston ambience. Be prepared, it will be crowded after the game. We eat there often and it's reasonable. There are also many restaurants in Kenmore Square, although the value is doubtful. If you decide to go dowtown to see the sites, take the green line from Kenmore Square (a few steps from your hotel) and get off at Government Center (a 15 min. ride)

I am really confused - a Holiday Inn in Kenmore Square? There is one in Brookline, about a mile from Kenmore Square on Beacon Street. Is that the one you mean? Or there is a hotel on Brookline Ave - very close to park, but I do not think it is a Holiday Inn. There used to be a Howard Johnson's in Kenmore Square, but it is Boston Univ. dorms now. Someone correct my memory and satisfy my curiosity please and tell me what hotel you mean (I thought I knew the area very well since my son takes art classes in Kenmore Square and we are there quite frequently)

Indeed, there's no Holiday Inn in or near Kenmore Square. But I believe the HoJo's on Boylston Stret behind Fenway Park is currently a hotel, although it may have been used as dorms by BU for a time.

Other options in Kenmore Square include the Buckminster and the brand-new Hotel Commonwealth.
