Farmer's market - Embarcadero area

I understand there is a farmer's market each Saturday in the Embarcadero area. What time do they close on Saturday? What kind of items can we get there besides fruits & veggies?

hi there,
i live in SF and have to say the SF Farmers Market is amazing. i think it opens at 8 and closes at 1:30. Don't eat before you go, cuz there is great prepared food there (eg: eggs & warm food, sausages, coffee, scones, baked goods, etc). So much great stuff - my favorite from all of the farmers markets across the country that i have been to. There is a pear-rapberry salad dressing at one of the stands that is to die for. You won't be disappointed. Tons of cheeses, veggies, fruits, olive oil, flowers, baked stuff, juices, lavendar - you name it - and what is in "season" in CA will be there. Have a blast.

This is exactly what I needed to know. Will I be able to find it easily? What are the cross streets and what's the easist way to go, public transportation or should I drive and park?

This information is taken from the website for the Farmer's Market:

The Farmer's Market is currently held on Saturdays from 8-1:30 at Ferry Plaza, Embarcadero and Green. There is also one on Tuesdays,10:30-2:30 at Justin Herman Plaza, Embarcadero and Market.

Starting April 26, the markets will be held on Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the historic Ferry Building, which is at the foot of Market Street, on the Embarcadero. On Sunday, May 4, they will begin a weekly garden market.

You can easily get there on public transportation.

For more info, please go to www.cuesa.org.

Here are two URLs from this week's San Jose Mercury News food section about the new location for the farmer's market. The URLs are available for a week without charge. I can't wait to check it out!

I am so glad to see someone asking about the Farmer's Market. I always take my visiting guests to the market. It is a wonderful sampling of California - and a great place to buy very California gifts for those who stayed back home. Here are some great gift ideas to take home with you:

1. Honey
2. Lavender salt
3. Olive oil
4. Nuts
5. Sweet treats (chocolate!)
6. Artisan cheeses

The move to Ferry Plaza may still get delayed, so check the site before you head out. Enjoy!

Not-to-miss non-perishables include Frog Hollow and June Taylor jams and preserves (unbelievable), Michae Recchiuti chocolate, excellent dried fruits from a variety of stands, Acme breads, Cowgirl Creamery cheeses (okay, perishable, but a great picnic lunch!)

Don't forget Sharffen Berger chocolates, especially the one with the little cocoa nibs. Heaven.

Isn't it worth staying over, Kal?

Ms Bets,
You betcha...but we're not leaving until maybe 2 or 3:00 today so it will be maybe 5:00 at the earliest to get to SF.
By then, we may just crawl into Cafe Pescadero for a few pops and some good fish.

Ahhhhhh Chocolate! Can't have it cuz I'm on the Atkins diet...
The Chet Atkins diet...BBQ, Beer, whiskey, steaks...;-D

Hey Kal, give us a little SF trip report. From watching the news last night, it could've been quite interesting. Cafe Pescadero? Tell all!

Alooohaaa Ms Bets and all,
SF was fantastic this weekend!
Before we left on Sat.,we heard there were supposed to be more protests on Sat. eve/Sunday and Monday mornings so it looked like the threat of the protests drove off a lot of tourists.

Pretty odd that we can make it to SF from outside of Sacto with a few "pitt stops" in between in 2 hrs. on a Saturday afternoon.

Tuscan Inn is still a nice hotel with great help. Good FWharf location...away from the genl. noise.

Cafe Pascatore still puts out a good plate. The "Tuscan Cioppino" was very good and Mrs Kal's chicken marsala was also very good. Great service in spite of a pretty full house. Very good anti-pasta plate.

O'Reilly's on Green in NoBeach has a good Irish breakfast...yuuummmmie blood sausage!

Good Irish coffees, too, but we hiked down to the new/old Washington Sqare Bar and Grill where "Joey Blue Eyes" put O'Reilly's Irish Coffees to shame.

Ceasar's still has some good traditional Italian food. 7 course meal for the 2 of us w/ a bottle of Chianti cost about $82. And we were stuffed.

Lollygagged around SF this morning and then headed on home without any problems even tho there were about 10 CHPs at the entrance of the Bay Bridge at Harry and 1st..

One of these days we will make the Farmer's Mkt.
Nothing better than real, homegrown tomatos. Maybe when we return on 4-26 for the NFL Draft @ Shanghai Kelly's? Hmmmm. Fodor's GTG at the Famrer's Market?
