Family trip to New York.
Starting to get idea's for our annual family trip. We were thinking of going to New York City for a few days. I have heard the night life is amazing but we are travelling with a 14 and 11 year old. Any idea's for family things to do?

Have taken our children to NYC several times, starting when they were around your children's ages. there has never been a lack of things to do, from morning til night. NYC is open 24/7. Shows, sports, musuems, shopping, dining-all have evening hours on certain days. Start by going to some NYC tourism sites. You'll find enough info for several trips. Your children are azt a wonderful age to go to NYC

Found You!
Thanks for your nice ompliments...Whew it can get tough on these boards which again is why I stayed away so long.
At any rate I have some help for you. Forgetting that my teen is an "older" teen I did all this research for things to do in NYC with him...ummm, did not apply for him.
Ok, you have to go to Mars 2112. It is a restaurant that we were all excited about. Go to the web site to see what I mean.
The following site is invaluable: www.nycvisit.com.
The Museum of Natural History is a must.
Check out The New York Botanical Garden at www.nybg.org.
There is a web site that sells tickets to many broadway and off broadway shows for $5.00 for kids so that you can go with them. If I find the site I will give it to you. Visit the various Broadway sites. Use your computer search engine.
I like www.livebroadway.com.
www.applause-tickets.com is also one I like.
The Whitney Museum has an excellent quilt exhibit that I think the kids might enjoy. We loved it. Go to www.whitney.org. for the dates.
Grand Central Station will please them and you. www.grancentralterminal.com has good information.
Of course you gotta go to Chinatown, the NBA Store, Sony, Nike Town, FAO and Toys R Us and the MTV Studio. That's the short list.
Happy Holidays and God Bless You and Your Family!

p.s. Enjoy the trip planning. I'll peek in from time to time...

Just take them to Times Square after dark. Most of the places in the above post are there (Toys R Us, with a ferris wheel INSIDE the story, Virgin Records Megastore, MTV, ESPN Zone, etc.), and the lighted billboards will blow their minds. Go to the top of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and have a drink (coke or ginger ale!) in the revolving rooftop bar for spectacular views. There are plenty of kids up there.

the $5 ticket site for teenagers (13-18 only) that Oaktown mentions is www.high5tix.org, but the tickets for shows (mostly off and off-off broadway) disappear really quickly.
However, one lesser known aspect of this program is that you can buy (at telecharge outlets only) tickets for several museums at the rate of 2 for $5
(no, not one for $2.50 or 3 for $7.50).
For each 2 tickets, one must be for a teenager, but the other can be used by an adult or a younger child. I got 2 of us i nto the NY hall of science for 5, a savings of about $8
