My family (husband and 2 children ages 14 and 10) are traveling to San Diego on August 25 for 3 days. We are staying at the Marriot Marina on West Harbor Drive. There is a lot to do in San Diego and am trying to figure out an itinerary that is hitting the key attractions. We want to go to San Diego Safari Park (not the Zoo), Balboa Park & Visit the museums, USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, Coronado. Some questions -- a) everything is so expensive. Do you know where we can get coupons. have you ever heard of Go City Card? b) any itinerary suggestions and c) restaurant suggestions. Appreciate any ideas you have. Also, for the Safari Park, we aren't considering buying any of the extra safari attractions (ie: the caravan tour, etc).

Given how far the Safari Park is so far out of SD, why are you choosing it over the Zoo? I like it but would rather go to the zoo unless you are doing the extra tours.
I would recommend going to Cabrillo Monument on Point Loma, driving up to Children's Cove in La Jolla to see the seals and driving back down the coast. You could go to a Padres game. Maybe do a Harbor Cruise. 3 days is not a lot of time so you need to plan it well.
For restaurants, you are right near the Gaslamp District so there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. My favorite is the Fish Market right next to the Midway.
Also, do you know anything about San Diego Ghost Tours?
Have you been to the San Diego Zoo? I like WAP but the Zoo is superior, closer and is a little more inland so not as hot.
I think you can get a discount with a AAA card.
This is none of my business but you might consider saving money on the hotel. In San Diego, you pretty much need a car wherever you go, so why stay downtown?
erp:
Have a look on http://www.sandiego.org the official tourist information site for San Diego where you will offers and coupons. You can also request a free brochure.

Thanks for the sites -- I found some good coupons. LSky --I need to stay at that hotel for family reasons. I have a list of restaurants and attractions, but if anyone has suggestions of what to see or not to see, let me know. Thanks.
My brother and I, and our kids- were just at the zoo this past Thursday.
A "dual adult" membership included two guest passes and various other benefits for $96. In contrast, four one-day entrance tickets using a AAA discount were $144.00. Even if we just used the membership that one day it saved us nearly $50, but we'll also get to use the cards for the rest of the year if we go back to San Diego.
I believe the membership is good at the Safari, too, but you can check here:
