Family Road Trip to South East US

Our family is putting together a road trip for the Christmas/late December time-frame 2 weeks total). We'll be leaving from Cincinnati and would like to hit some great family spots along the way. At this point, we'd really like to hit Raleigh and Charleston on the way down to Brunswick, GA and maybe on to our condo in Venice, FL. Any suggestions for great family activities (hotels, must see sights, restaurants, etc.)? Some cities that have been suggested for us are Asheville, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine. We'd love any suggestions you can give! Details, please!

Many thanks!

Yes, from Cincy you could certainly hit Asheville. Then Raleigh. And Charleston.
I would certainly skip MB and maybe even Jacksonville.
Maybe if you were more exact if this 2 weeks total, and where you want to spend time "for sure", it would be helpful

I'd skip Raleigh...it's a bit out of the way.

I'd drive south thru Knoxville and hit up Dollywood and http://www.tuckaleecheecaverns.com/. Then over to Ashville, Charlotte, Charleston, Savannah.

Skip MB.

Go westerly to get home. Visit CNN, the aquarium, and Coke in Atlanta. Maybe stop in Chattanooga or Nashville.

The Grove Park Inn in Ashville has a huge national gingerbread house competition. They will be on display until January 2 so that may be a nice stop. I would also visit the Biltmore.

If you stop in Atlanta, you could visit Xmas at Stone Mountain.

Could you be a little more specific about ages and interests? Traveling with childfren, of any age, can be a real challenge. Many times what the parents like to do completely bores children, and vice-versa. I've got some ideas for you, but it would help if I knew if you liked Civil War stuff, restaurants, museums, scenery, etc.

A really nice Christmas stop on the way would also be Winston-Salem for a visit to Old Salem. It will be all Christmassy and be sure to go to the Winkler Bakery for some Moravian sugar cake and cookies--and their bread is equally delicious. A tour of Old Salem and the Southern Museum of Decorative Arts would be a nice day for all ages--sort of a mini-Williamsburg with a Moravian Church influence.
I'd also skip Raleigh, but then, we live in Charlotte so the rivalry is there!!
