My sister and I are planning a family reunion next summer in the NY/NJ/CT area. We'll be looking at about six family suites (typically 2 adults, 1-2 kids) and about five couples' rooms. One place I spotted that seems to be geographically desirable is the Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center. We like that it has pools and tennis courts, meeting facilities and catering for possible picnicing, and that it can probably accommodate everyone's needs. Can anyone share any input on this property -- or good alternatives convenient to Northern NJ, Western Connecticut and upstate NY?
Thanks -- and happy holidays, everyone!

My only experience with Tarrytown House was an unpleasant weekend. We were charged full price for a dinner served in a function room with no views and no ambience and were not informed when we made our dinner reservation that the principal restaurant would be closed for a wedding. The pool was small, unattended, and filled with rowdy, unsupervised teenagers. I would not consider going there again.
We have had fine family reunions at Pocono Manor in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Given that you're doing this in the summer I wonder why you wouldn't go some place on or near a beach? There are a number of motels in Montauk Long Island on or across from the beach where rooms have small kitchens. Lenhart's is one place across from the beach with small cabins that are studios, 1 and 2 bedrooms. The Panamoric View is on the beach and has various size apts. Those from Ct. could use the Cross Sound ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson to shorten their trip. This is likely to be more expensive than Tarrytown, but perhaps more fun.
There are reviews of all these places on tripadvisor.com Here's the one for Tarrytown House.

May be a bit far from where you want but only 1 1/2 hours from NYC on the CT shoreline - Water's Edge Resort and Spa. They have condos for rent and guest rooms. Great location on the ocean. Tons of good restaurants in the area.
