Family of 10 adults looking for dinner resv NYC near theater
Went to make reservations at Carmines, booked solid. We are a party of 10 adults looking for a nice, moderately priced restaurant to dine in on the 26th of December. Must be near the theater district. Any suggestions?

Another Fodorite gave me the very good advice to look for nice little restaurants, by walking a few blocks west from the Marriott at Times Square. It was great advice, as there are restaurants in every doorway, and each looked great.
We chose Danny's Grand Sea Palace, www.dannysgsp.com, at 346-348 West 46th Street, 212 265 8130. It was pretty good, not great, but ok for our family meal. A French restaurant on the street looked better, but they didn't have a table even early in the evening. Maybe other Fodorites can give you the names of other restaurants there.

I would recommend walking to Tenth Avenue, therefore removing yourself from the overpriced tourist traps that are thick on the ground in the theatre district. I have no idea of your tastes, but here is one option on 10th Avenue (and 44th Street):

There are dozens of options. I would go to menupages.com then select either west 40s or west 50s depending on where your theater is. They now have under "features" options like pre/post theater, group dining etc. Pick the ones that apply and see what's left. Without specifying kind of cuisine there are just too many possibilities to name. You will have to phone to find out if they can accomodate your party but there are plenty of larger places. While Maureen's advice is goodl, for a party of 10 those small places are probably not the best idea for you.
Cafe Un Deux Trois (French "ish"), Ruby Foo's (Asian), Bond 45 Italian are just some of the places that come to mind that are large. If you want a place similar to Carmine's with family style Italian, there's Tony's Di Napoli.

We choose to dine at Ciro's in the theater district. The waitstaff was very congenial. Food above adequate and served hot. Atmosphere was nice. We would definitely return for pre-theater dining. The gratuity was included with the party, but did not show on credit card receipt, so be sure to inquire as not to double tip.
