Fall Foliage, NH & ME
I know this is probably an impossible question, but I seem to recall hearing that because of the drought this year, fall foliage will probably peak early. Is this true, and if so how early? We have a trip planned for Maine 9/22-25 and the lakes area, New Hampshire 9/25 to 10/2. Thought we would have to drive far north to catch the peak, but if it's a week or so early, we may hit it just right and be surrounded by it.

Yankee Magazine's website always has a foliage forecaster: www.newengland.com
There is definitely a drought; usually by mid-August a few trees near water are beginning to turn; so far, everything is still green around here (so. NH).

Slight correction on my previous posting: The website for New Hampshire is www.visitnh.com.

Hi Sharon,
I wouldn't sweat the issue. Personally I think "peak" foliage is highly overated. I always think the colors are brighter about a week before the experts proclaim the peak. And if you try to time it too close, and there's one really windy rainstorm, all the foliage is gone. You should have excellent leaf-peeping that last week in September.
