We may be taking our family on a trip to enjoy the beautiful colors of Fall and have narrowed our research down to Michigan and New Hampshire. Any recommendations about which of these two regions would offer the best foliage? We'll probably be doing a lot of country road driving.
Thank you.

Hello Tilly, it really depends how long you have and when you are going. I have been to New Hampshire many times. If you want to go the last weekend of september,Northern NH is great, Southern NH, is great mid-Oct. If you do end up going to NH start looking for hotels NOW. Take the chair up to the top of either Cannon or drive up Mt Washington in the North. If you have time in the South, climb Monadnock and it will be well deserved. I have never been to Michigan in fall so can not say anything about that.
Have a good trip and start booking.
If it's a family trip, choose the place that has more to offer than just looking at leaves. I haven't been to Michigan either so can't compare. Early October in NH's White Mountains would also provide hiking opportunities including the Flume. A trip to the top of a mountain is a good suggestion. In NH you can follow the ice cream trail and maybe sneak over into VT for the Great Vermont Corn Maze in Danville. Take a foliage cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee or an inland rivers cruise out of Portsmouth NH. In NH you can enjoy both mountains and lobster!
Michigan has spectacular fall colors. The timing changes a lot year to year, but you can slect how far north you go or how far away from the Great Lakes to hit the areas of peak color.
