My husband has planned a week long getaway to a Golf Resort in central Tennessee, in a town called Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. This appears to due west of Knoxville. I wonder if anyone has recommendations for good sightseeing in the area. We love civil war battlefields, and quaint little towns with fun shops, wineries, good restaraunts. I know we don;t plan to spend the whole time at the resort. Anyone have suggestions?

Trip Ideas
Fairfield Glade is a big resort in Crossville, Cumberland County. Most of the people there are residents and there are several timeshares and rental properties. The Glade has a lot of recreation, including several beaches and marinas. There are also several restaurants on site and a number of them on Peavine Road just off property. There are several wineries with restaurants and a large number of eateries nearby. There are a number of state parks within 30 minutes, including Cumberland Mountain State Park with a big, popular buffet. There is not a lot of Civil War stuff in the immediate area, however, downtown Crossville has a military museum. You will be about 90 minutes from Chattanooga and northwest Georgia with oodles of Civil War Stuff, including a train ride. I would suggest loggin on to the local paper at http://www.crossville-chronicle.com/ Their website has a recently published travel guide for the area. You can also stop at the Chamber of Commerce downtown (yes, there is still a downtown) for info and I'm sure they have some at the Glade. AOL recently named Crossville one of the top ten places to overnight on a budget and Crossville was editors' choice for budget retirement in Where To Retire Magazine. If you're of that age, you may want to start looking at homes in the Glade or Lake Tansi. We visited two years ago and came back to buy a home.
Thank you for those great ideas. We are really looking forward to our time away.
We went to Tennessee and stayed at the Wynham Fairfield Glade resort - in the Nottingham estates- delightful and well appointed time share with so many lovely ammenities. The guys golfed on several of the courses and found them both challenging and fun. We visited the Preacher's treehouse on beehive drive in Crossville and that is one of those off the beaten track placed that you just must see. What a wonderful week, and what a wonderful location. We would go back in a flash.
