Estimated drive time on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Can anyone help me estimate how long it takes to drive from Asheville to Abingdon, VA and from Abingdon to Roanoke on the Blue Ridge Parkway, providing you don't make any stops along the way? It will be on a Sunday in mid-October, so traffic may be heavier than normal. Thanks for the help.

The BRP is marked by mileposts - as are all the stops and entrances - and the speed limit is 45 mph. That's the FASTEST you can go.
How long it takes will depend on how often you want to stop and what you may want to do along the way.

Abingdon is NOT on the Parkway. Not even close. Via I-26 & I-81 from Asheville to Abingdon is two hours. Abingdon to Roanoke is about three hours, maybe a little less.
I wouldn't forego the Parkway trip just to see Abingdon. See my reply to you in the other topic you posted.

Yes, I realized last night that Abingdon is not off the parkway. When I looked at Mapquest I originally thought the 81 was the parkway. The parkway is not identified very clearly on the map. It looks likes Abingdon will be way out the way. That's too bad - we really wanted to check out this town...
