We'll be in Erie PA at the end of October for a quick weekend visit with my cousin and her husband. Looking for a casual place for dinner/conversation in or near the area.
Thanks!

Hi Debs,
I am originally from Erie so hopefully I can help.
If you are looking for a local steak place, Ricardo's is a pretty good bet. The filet mignon and ribs are top notch and their special fried zucchini is a house secret.
For French food, Bertrand's has a pretty good reputation and is right on the local square.
For a good ole Irish pub, Molly Brannigan's is delicious. The bar was imported from Ireland and the atmosphere is cozy.
A specialty in Erie is wings. Every local tavern has their own variety of sauces. My favorite is Park Tavern in Lawrence Park. Be prepared for lots of deep fried goodness - wings, onion devils, cauliflower, fries, etc. Not for the hard of heart!
For pizzas, Valerio's is a family favorite. We usually get a large antipasto to split, with garlic bread and a large pizza.
Lastly, for a more "upscale" dining experience, the Sheraton hotel on the Bayfront and Smuggler's has some good food and the views of the lake are nice too.
Hope you enjoy your trip!
Wonderful suggestions! My cousin is staying at the Sheraton Bayfront, so that may be where we wind up. She's there for a convention so she may have already eaten there by the time we hook up for the weekend. Thanks!
I just wanted to say that while Smuggler's is on the bay and the food is good, the decor is terrible. They could seriously do with a makeover. I've also had good food at Benjamin's which is located in the Avalon Hotel. I agree that Molly Brannigan's has a great atmosphere and the food is okay. It's a nice place to sit near the fire and have a Guinness. Just wish they'd play some Irish music! I have stayed at the Sheraton Bayfront and it is just beautiful; had a drink at the bar, but didn't have a meal.
