Epcot with 3 & 6 year old?

Does anyone have any experience with Epcot and small children. We have been to animal kingdom and magic kingdom many times but have avoided Epcot. Does anyone think it is worth it? Also any comments on MGM with the little ones would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

Personally, I'd take the kids to Epcot only if you are "full" of the other parks. In my opinion, it's more of a learning experience and can bore the tiny ones. There are some activities there for such little ones, but definitely not the majority. Of course they would probably love the fireworks and laser light show at night.

As for MGM, this was my and daughter's favorite park. She was 7 at the time, 5 years ago. We loved several of the rides. There is a pavillion that has a musical show that was great for kids and adults.

Sorry i can't be more specific. My memory isn't what it used to be. I'm sure there are many Disney experts who'll give lots of opinions on this.

I second Lisa's reply in its entirety. Epcot has places such as space and underwater exploration. I estimate your children would have to be 10 or above to really appreciate it. Mind you I was about thirty when I went on the underwater experience and when the sub supposedly starts malfunctioning at a couple of kilometres deep I nearly wet myself. So quite scary for a ten year old !!

Depends on the kid, especially the older one. My son at that age was overwhelmed by the whole WDW thing, and and preferred Epcot to Magic Kingdom - we had planned on a half day or so there just to get a taste of Epcot, and he kept asking to go back during our trip. The lesser crowds and much shorter lines made it more fun for him.

But if they have been to and like Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, you would have a better sense of what they would like.

It depends on how much time you have. If you are only there 3 or 4 days, I would skip Epcot, or maybe go to the World Showcase in the evening for dinner. WS has later hours than the other parks.
MGM is fantastic. We took our 2 yr old this summer and he loved MGM! He liked the Playhouse Disney show with Bear & Big Blue House, Rolie Polie Olie, Pooh & Stanley. He liked the Beauty & the Beast show, the Great Movie Ride, the parade and Muppet Show. We didn't get to the Little Mermaid show though.

I took a 3-year-old on the WedWay People mover, thinking it would be a nice break and a claming tour. When the train went into Space Mountain, the pitch black totally freaked her out. Now she has major darkness fears.

YOu took a 3 year old into Space MOuntain? SHe must have been tall for her age. My 7 year old was just tall enough.

I would avoid Epcot. Why not do the Magic Kingdom again? You will be scraping around for things to do in Epcot. They really should bulldoze that place and start over.

We did Epcot with my daughter when she was 19 months, and then again when she was 3 and our son was 4 months. We love that park. There actually is plenty to do with kids your age. We took them on Spaceship Earth, Rio del Tiempo in Mexico, and Maelstrom in Norway. Innoventions also has a lot of hands on activities your 6 year old might enjoy. In World Showcase, you can purchase a passport for the kids, and then have cast members at each country stamp and sign them with a greeting in their native language. Your kids can also stop at any Kidstop at any country and do a craft. Illuminations (the fireworks) and the Tapestry of Dreams parade are beautiful. The Living Seas has a wonderful tank. No, these activities won't take all day, but if you have a hopper pass, you should definitely stop at Epcot for a while. At MGM, our daughter's favorite thing was the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Playground." The shows are also worth seeing. Have fun!

To Mrs. X: No, she didn't take her 3-year old on Space Mountain! The Wedway People Mover goes BEHIND the Space Mountain attraction, where you can look down and see the people in line to board.

I took my kids there twice when they were about 4 and 7. The first time was a disaster because they were overtired. I can't tell you how bad it was. The kids were crying and I was stressing. Just awful.

But the second time on a different trip was awesome. I learned from my mistake the first time around.

We had no waits for anything. They loved the Land with the plants and the small shows with singing vegetables and another about caring for the enviroment that featured the music from the Lion King. Also there was a Kidspot with a craft for them to do. We ate there too. I think we were there for 2 hours.

They also loved the fountains near Imagination and the whole exhibition at Imagination where its very hands on.

They loved the Dinosaurs part of Energy.

Loved Mexico ride and the Maelstrom (which they hated the first time, again because they were overtired.)

The Living Statutes in France where a big hit too. Plus we saw all 7 Dwarfs and Snow White in Germany. The acrobats in China, the drummers in Japan, the parade at night - all great entertainment.

So it depends on your kids and how they are feeling that day. I would give it a try and be prepared to leave if its not working out.

The thing about Disney World is that sometimes its the little things that make the day for the kids. The big splashy stuff they love but in small doses. Sometimes they need a break just to run around a bit. The Viking ship playground in Norway may be just the spot to give them a break. Epcot has a few more hidden quiet areas too like in Morracco near the fountains.

Have fun.

We go to Disney 6-8 times a year. We have 5 children (ages 3,5,7,9,12). My kids love Epcot and MGM. The kids like Epcot because of the Kid Cot tables where they get to color a mask and get it stamped by a cast member from each country. Some of them go on rides such as the Norway boat, others do not. We all like the boat at Mexico, the pavillions up front are a favorite also. As far as MGM, my kids also love it; there are things for small children such as muppet movie, Playhouse disney show, mermaid show, beauty and the beast, etc. For more information you may want to check out Deb Wills' site; www.wdwig.com
