Enter with your thinking hats only fellow Fodorians!!

Whats up folks, here's the deal.. Very Lost, am now turning to my fellow fodorians for some expertise and help as you have yet to let me down

Youthful, active and fun early 30's couple with no kids into fun and adventure with sprinkles of rest and relaxation. Looking for a 4-5 day trip (leaving tomorrow) narrowed down to Hawaii, after recently eliminating Jamaica. Flying out from LAX so the shorter the traveling distance, the better. Interested in a refined, upbeat and fun vibe (not spring breaky, binge drinking, jersey shore wannabe's- aka cancunie lol), but want to go out and enjoy ourselves with good music drinking and dancing!

Doesn't have to be overly romantic but would rather not be surrounded in a place with lots of children/families. Someplace nice and intimate but not terribly remote or too quiet. We're spontaneous and fun but we're not the get up at the crack of dawn to chase down beach chairs type of couple. Absolutely NOOOOOOOO mega-resorts or anything that resembles one!!!!!!!! I despise them and refuse to give them my money as I don't like the busy, overly crowded and impersonal feel of them (sorry for the rant but had to get that out of the way

Interested in chilling at the beach and do daily activities. Spend some day trips on excursions, and then be able to find a good and safe nightlife.
We are not uptight or fussy travelers, however, we do not want to stay in a dump or adversely, a stuffy, strict place either!

Thank you for wasting 5 minutes of your life on my problems, but if you can be so kind and spare your thoughts, I will be so appreciative and grateful.
Safe travels and One Love!

FLY TO HONOLULU, STAY IN WAIKIKI

(sorry to shout sirtravelsalot, but I've already suggested this about a million times, and I know you need to make a quick decision).

The island of Oahu is the easiest and quickest to get to. There are all kinds of great hotels, plenty to see and do, great atmosphere for nightlife (not spsring break not cancun-ish), beautiful beaches, history and culture, all kinds of tours and activities (or not).

aloha (not "one love" that's jamaica -lol) suze

<Fyi guys Im looking to leave tomorrow afternoon>

Any of the islands would work for everything you ask for. Oahu, Kauai, Maui or Big Island. Just check flights, pick one, and go. You really can't go wrong.

@suze- lol THANK YOUUUUUUU i know you threw some great info my way on the last post, just wanted to start a fresh new thread now that I've narrowed it to HI so any future seekers of info will be able to find it easily!
I still domt see how Honululu or Waikiki fits as the place to go being, (from what ive heard and read) that it seems to be that commercial overly crowded big city feel, tainting what is otherwise known as paradise. I live in NYC via LA so the last thing i would like is that hustle and bustle feel.

Im a little scared to pull the trigger on which island lol i really think it will end up btwn Kona and Maui

Honolulu is the city; Waikiki is the playground. There may be lots of people, but NYC or LA it isn't. Plenty to do, as Suze says, or not. Beautiful, gorgeous

. . . well, I wasn't quite finished. Beautiful, gorgeous scenery. Rent a car for a day to drive around the island and/or over the Pali Drive. Stop for a look at Hanauma Bay whether you go there to snorkel or not. Eat shave ice with ice cream in the bottom. See Pearl Harbor. Look at a guide book for information on what interests you, either at your library or a bookstore.

I vote for Maui. It is paradise. Lots of condo rentals available, giving you the privacy and flexibility you want, but also still many opportunities for fun. If you really are leaving tomorrow,no more fussing around... just pick whatever place you can find on Maui and go. Have fun!

Maui. Check the 'ends', not Kaanapali/Lahaina. Look in South Kihei/Wailea/Makena in South Maui and Napili/Kapalua in West Maui.

We like low-rise, low-density condos, but they're not usually a good deal for a stay of less than a week. I like this for South Maui condos because the site manager has vetted before listing: www.mauiownercondos.com

Can you find a rental car at OGG for less than an arm and a leg? Summer is popular for mainland families. (Stay away from Grand Wailea, Honua Kai, other huge places with 3BR condos.)

Nowhere outside of Honolulu is going to have a lot of nightlife, but Maui has some -- and Big Island doesn't, unless you count The Hippies That Time Forgot in tacky Kona Town.

I suggested Oahu because it is the easiest to plan last minute. Rent a car. You don't have to stay only in the city. It's a relatively small (and incredibly beautiful) island.

<Interested in a refined, upbeat and fun vibe ... want to go out and enjoy ourselves with good music drinking and dancing> That just doesn't really sound like Kona to me.

Maui 2nd choice. But then again, you should already be at the airport if I read your post correctly!!!
