Going to Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains, and White Sand National Monument. Will fly into El Paso. Will drive to Carlsbad(the town) and spend 3 nights there. Plan on spending the last night in Alomogorda. Do I need to worry about any safety issues in El Paso and in driving?

I drove out to West TX after Christmas with my son. We also went to Carlsbad Caverns, the Guadalupe Mountains, El Paso, and the Davis Mountains. We thoroughly enjoyed out trip and felt safe at all times.
If you find a bunch of dead bodies and a briefcase with $2,000,000 in the desert, just turn around a drive away.
(The main character in the movie/book "No Country for Old Men" didn't, and it wasn't a good thing.)
Seriously, keep your gas tank topped up and make sure you have plenty of water, esp in warm weather.
If you look at FBI crime statistics and a recent report annually prepared by Allstate Insurance Company on safety in cities, El Paso is one of the safest cities in the United States. Strange, but true, statistic. Just don't go into Mexico, as Juarez, just across the border, is one of the most unsafe cities in the world.
