There are lots of places right near your hotel. You can go to www.menupages.com and look at the West 70's and 80's. Here are some of my favorites:

Ruby Foos (Asian-- right near your hotel)
Ocean Grill (Seafood- 78th/Columbus)
West Side Brewery (Bar Food - 76th/Amsterdam)
Pappardella (Italian - 75th/Columbus)
Cafe Frida (Mexican - 77th/Columbus)
St. James Gate (Irish Pub/Bar Food - 81st/Amsterdam)

Honestly... most places in the neighborhood are open late.

Dinner at 10-11pm in New York is certainly not unusualy and 99% of restaurants on the UWS will be open and serving dinner.

I agree that www.menupages.com is a great resource.

Enjoy NYC!

If you mean arriving at the hotel at 9 pm - that's not late. On weekends many locals eat at 8 or later and few places will stop serving before 11 pm. Plus - in case you're delayed have a look at menupages.com - it lists places that are open 24 hours.

What is your budget and what types of food do you like?

Also, you may want to make reservations if it's a Sat night during the holidays.

Thanks for all the great ideas. We will be arriving at the hotel at 9pm. we like all kinds of food.
we have been to new york several times but have never stayed in the uws. I guess, being from a small town in Texas we forget they don't roll up the streets at 5pm. We love to come and visit especially at Christmas (this is my daughter's christmas present).

Thanks again

Well - in the moderate range we like Ocean for seafood and Isabella's for Italian, both in the immediate neighborhood On Sat night you will want reservations at either one.

If you go to menupages.com you can see the actual menus for each with diner reviews.

Oh 0 and you don;t mention what time your plane lands. Have you allowed enough time to get to the city?

A good idea for after is to grab a cab to Top of the Rock and ascend at 11 - to see all the city lights.

If you want to drop down a bit, I love Landmarc and Stone Rose in the Time Warner Center. Stone Rose has great views, as does Dizzy's Jazz Club all the way upstairs (you might be able to pop up for a drink after dinner if you don't mind paying the cover for the band that will be there).

Do you any of you Upper West Siders like Ouest? I have only had brunch there which I enjoyed.

Another spot worth checking out is Bloomingdale Road, 80th and Columbus, I believe (if not Columbus, then Broadway).

AntInNewYork, FYI Bloomingdale Road is on Broadway at 88th street.

It replaced the popular Aix restaurant, but the reviews for this new incarnation have not been good (I haven't been there, but will wait to hear if it seems to be improving)

Thanks Janie, sorry about that. I was there just last week and it seems they've let their entire first round of staff go and from what I saw, the bartenders and managers were MUCH more on their game than the initial crew who looked like deer caught in headlights. I've only had drinks/apps there but have enjoyed the food.
