The first week in June I fly into Baltimore & then have 4 free days before going to NYC.I have not been to this area before. Can anyone suggest elegant hotels, restaurants and places to stay/see in the
area as well as on the chesapeake bay.

The nicest place to stay on the Eastern Shore is the Inn at Perry Cabin, a 32-room very high end property in St. Michaels. Every room is decorated differently and delightfully; we've stayed in one room that appeared to have been just vacated by an orchestra leader; another that belonged to a sea captain. The Inn's restaurant is something of a disappointment; it looks beautiful but the food is only fair. St. Michaels is a great town for walking or bicycling, and there are rental boats to explore the coves. The best beach on the Delmarva peninsula is Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, about ten miles north of Rehoboth Beach. The kindest thing I can say about the beach resorts is that they're cheap and plentiful. If you have four days, you'll want to take one of those days to see Smith Island, hard in the center of Chesapeake Bay. You catch the ferry either from Tangier on the Eastern Shore or Summerfield on the mainland. On the island there is a guided tour on an old school bus ($2) and several restaurants that specialize in soft shell crabs and crab cakes. The old, beat-up one back a hundred feet from the ferry dock has the best food.
