east coast road trips in mid- october

i am looking for quick vacation ideas. we will be based in ny and are looking to do a trip within a four hour drive time ( each direction), we are going in mid october and as much as i would like to go to lake george area to see fall foliage, i am concerned it will be too cold.
an ideas for a two day getaway would be welcome- we love looking at beautiful relaxing scenery, local attractions, and easy nature walks

Coast of Connecticut to Newport

DELMARVA peninsula via Garden State Parkway and Cape May ferry.

Brandywine Valley to Lancaster to Valley Forge or New Hope, PA

US 7 from Bridgeport as far north as you can go through Berkshires, southern Vermont, back via Hudson, NY, and the Taconic

Delaware Water Gap, New Jersey as you never knew it

Cooperstown and Skaneateles down to Watkins Glen.

All this assumes your "ny" means New York City.

Lake George area will not be too cold to enjoy mid October. It'll be chilly out on the lake, but it's perfect weather for hiking.

Visit the Lambertville,NJ and New Hope, PA. The towns lie on either side of the Delaware River. There is great easy walking in the area, some nice hikes (check out Ringing Rocks State Park), shops, restaurants, etc. There are some other nice towns in the area, like Frenchtown.
