East Coast Fall Road Trip - tips?
My husband and I are both retired and are planning a road trip to the East coast in mid-September - 2 - 3 weeks - neither of us have been there before - we have taken previous road trips from California through the northern states to Niagara Falls and another through the central states to Florida - this time we plan to fly into maybe Boston and rent a car and travel from there - any suggestions and/or tips are appreciated - e.g., towns to see - restaurants - history - events - etc-
Thank you - Karen

You left Massachusetts out of your tag line but it should be the first one to explore. Lots of history there: Lexington, Concord, the "Patriot Walk" in downtown Boston. "Salem" (Danvers), the Atlantic Coast north of Boston to Gloucester, New Bedford Whaling Museum on the way to Rhode Island and Connecticut. . .

Flying into Boston, you can then rent a car and do a little traveling around Cape Cod, Newport,RI, etc. then turn in the car and take the train to NYC. Spend time there and then rent a car and stop in northern coastal New Jersey...Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, Spring Lake...then drive south to Cape May...from there take the ferry to Lewes DE...and end up in Rehoboth Beach.
