Will be stopping in Skagway in early June on a cruise. One shore excursion option we're considering is a tour of Haines and float trip through the eagle preserve. Has anyone done this tour? Do you recommend it?

It's a beautiful tour, but don't expect to see multitudes of eagles. They don't gather here until later in the year.
I visited Haines in September and we looked for the eagles.
There were some eagles at that time of the year (we counted maybe 60), but we did not see them at the eagle reserve. Instead the eagle were close to Chilkoot River where the salmon was spawning.
The guide told us, that there are some residental eagles all over the year, but do not expect to see many in June.
A factor here, is as mentioned, the expectation of wildlife, slim. There will be eagles but far better are trips from end of August- later. Especially if you haven't been to Skagway before- there are plenty of gems there to consider. I have been to Haines several times, very nice place but it may not be the best use of time.
