E cigarettes to be included in NYC smoking bans

Jump to last reply

There is significant evidence that the illusory safety of e-cigarettes is convincing many young people to start smoking as well as encouraging cigarette smokers to "give up" smoking. And just learned that the city council is in the process of passing legislation that will make all non-smoking laws apply to e-cigarettes.

They will be banned from all restaurants and bars, all train stations and airports, all office buildings and shops and many outdoor spaces including baseball parks/football arenas and children's parks and other public spaces. So they will be allowed only on the street and in your own residence - although more and more condos and co-ops are banning smoking altogether (it is already banned in public areas).

It seems likely the ban on discounting prices and/or providing coupons will also be banned, as with regular cigarettes, the price of which is set at a minimum of $10.50 per pack.

Have a happy and smoke-free Thanksgiving.
