If you like country fairs -- BIG country fairs -- plan to take in the Durham (CT) Agricultural Fair Sept. 25-27! We used to be very involved with it before we moved up here. At one time, it was THE biggest 3-day agricultural fair in the country, drawing 300,000 people in 3 days, which is enormous for a town of some 7,000 people!
Myriad agricultural exhibits (baking, canning, sewing, vegetables, etc.), foods galore, animals, etc., plus the usual rides and games, if that's what you want.
Just mentioning it! We have NO pecuniary interest in it!

I think attending a country fair should be required of anyone who wants to see the quintessential New England. Love the 4-H exhibits and animal shows. Hopkinton NH state fair is now, Labor Day weekend. We usually fit in something like fried twinkies but fair goers should know that some of the food booths are run by churchs, civic organizations, 4-H, etc to raise money for local projects. And sometimes the best time to go is first thing in the morning for breakfast (and before the midway starts).

Exactly so.
I was a member of a large civic organization back then, and we used to make a LOT of money in our food booth for charity in that one weekend!
Actually, several fairs are now running in Vermont, of course, including the fair in Rutland, which I think starts this weekend.
