Driving to So. Vt from NYC
I'll be driving up to Stratton ski resort in early Feb for a trip. Is it better to drive up the Thruway (87) and across Rt 7 into VT or go up 95 to 91? We'll be driving up leisurely on a Sunday afternoon and driving home on a Friday. Thanks!

Off Peak, which you are doing, I always prefer north on 87 and then east into VT. The Hudson Valley is always pretty, Saratoga is nearby if boredom or hunger sets in and it feels less like the Indy 500.

I've done both routes multiple times. After several years of taking I95 to 91, I began to prefer the NY State Thruway route. I found it to be a more scenic drive and with far less traffic.
One other option, which is, IMHO, the most scenic route, is to take the Taconic Parkway as far north as it goes. I believe you connect to route 22 about 10 to 15 miles south of route 7, then connect into route 7. (I'd have to check a map for this last part as it's been a few years since I made the regular Friday/Sunday Vermont run.)
There are ways around the traffic on 95 and we would often take the Merritt to north of New Haven and pickup 91 a bit south of Hartford.

In my youth we went numerous times to Jamaica, VT. From Bennington we always went up to Manchester and back down to Jamaica rather than go to Brattleboro and up to Jamaica. I believe that Manchester route is shorter.
