The "getting across Missouri" part keeps coming up with hwy-36 east. I'd love to avoid 70! I've never taken it. Is it nicely paved with few slowdowns and semis? Or, what would you recommend? (I am so bored of I-70 KC-Columbi-St. Louis...but intend to stick with the interstates after Missouri. Thank you in advance!

Mapquest says: I-35 to Des Moines and I-80 to Chicago.
The other way is US 36 to Springfield then I-55.
Times are comparable. Ever been to Hannibal?
Ahhh...I like the Des Moines route better....I am in a hurry to get up there, but may try to see Hannibal on the way back. Google did not present the Des Moines option the few times I pluggged it in. Should have tried harder. Thank you, Tom Fuller!
