Driving from West Glacier to Waterton

We are driving from West Glacier up to Waterton. Do people take the Sun Road to make that trip, and how long would that take? Or should we take the route Mapquest suggests, US 2 E to Highway 89 to MT-17, and take the red bus for our Sun Road experience? Next week will all the trail head parking lots be full if we want to stop along the way? (Besides whichever one we get to first.)

If you are reasonably early risers, I would just drive GTTS myself. If you can't get on the road until 10 AM, probably not, though I'm no expert.

It is narrow and twisty, and you won't want to go very fast.

GTTS road from West Glacier to Waterton will take you 3 1/2 hours if you don' t stop. Should you decide to take Rte. 2, follow 2 to the town of Browning. In Browning, pick up state hiway 464, to hiway 89 and than hiway 17. MUCH, MUCH better road.
You should be aware that the border here is only open from 7AM till 10PM.

Logan Pass is the only "parking lot" and that will fill by 10 am. Trail head parking is normally only roadside pullouts with parking for 10 to 15 cars at best. There is however a FREE shuttle that runs the entire GTTS road and stops at most trailheads.
Enjoy Glacier!
