Can anyone tell me how driving from JFK to the Stamford area is? I live in Los Angeles and am used to traffic and crazy drivers. Would it be wiser to use public transportation?
Also, does anyone have a hotel recommendation for the Fairfield County area - just staying for one night.
Thank you.

Kim,
the only transportation between JFK and Stamford is by car...if you don't want to drive you could take a cab (probably about $100 flat fee)
Driving won't be too bad if you're used to LA. Should only take about an hour, can take 90 minutes or more if traffic is bad
Directions are easy. Basically, take the Van Wyck Expressway (I-676) North from the JFK airport and follow it to the Whitestone Bridge ($3.50 toll). On the other side of the bridge, stay to the right and follow signs for I-95 North to New England. About 20-25 minutes on I-95 and you'll be in Stamford
The Westin in Stamford is nice and is right off the highway (Exit 7)
You don't have to drive - you can take CT Limosine - www.ctlimo.com - they run vans from the airports to several stops in CT, including Stamford, where they stop at the Stamford Marriott (not a bad hotel either). Cost is about $75 round trip or $40 one-way. We use them to JFK and LaGuardia all the time - way easier than driving.
