We will be driving from Atlanta to Clarksdale Ms at the beginning of November. We will stop overnight so have 2 days for the drive. There are a number of potential routes and we will be very grateful for any suggestions on routes and where to stay and eat along the way. We prefer to travel on quiet scenic country roads and want to avoid larger towns and freeways.

From Cullman it is only 4.5 hours to Clarksdale MS.
Atlanta to Birmingham AL on I 20; then Tupelo, MS (birthplace of Elvis) and Oxford, MS (University of Mississippi, home of William Faulkner, On the Square Books, great bookstore)via US 78 and 278 all the way to Clarksdale. Oxford is a great place to spend the night and the following morning, and I have done the drive enough back in the day to know that it is interesting enough.
Watch for bottle trees in people's yards.
What is the attraction to Clarksdale MS? Someone else was looking for transport from Memphis or New Orleans to Clarksdale.

Why Clarksdale? I have a conference in Atlanta then we're driving to Clarksdale where we hope to catch some live blues. Then we will spend 10 days doing a road trip through Mississippi and Louisiana ending in New Orleans where we will stay a week. I have a pretty good idea of our route and places to stay and eat on that drive as there is a lot of info on this site. We're still working on the route between Atlanta and Clarksdale.

Let me help you get through Birmingham. Don't follow Google. Coming from the East go through downtown Birmingham on I 20. At junction of I 20 & I 65 take I 65 North toward Huntsville at Exit 124. Go North 3 miles to exit 264 and take Daniel Payne. Go west on Daniel Payne about a mile to Coalburg Road.
Turn right on Coalburg and go about 2 miles. You will come upon Corridor X whch is I 22 West. Go West on I 22 to Memphis. I 22 is almost complete to I 65. Google will tell you to take # 78 through the suburbs. This will save you at least 30 minute.
Follow 3 61 S from Clarksdale to the BBKing Museum in Indianola, MS. Spend a night at the 4 * Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood owned by Viking Range and dine at Lusco's or Giardinia's. Spend a night in historic Vicksburg and visit the National Military Park. Stay a night or two in historic Natchez, MS. Stop for lunch at Old Country Store on # 61 N of Natchez for good country food. Stay at Monmouth Plantation in Natchez then head to NOLA. Stay in the FQ. Enjoy your trip.
