Drive through Otter Crest Loop and Yachats

Next August, my husband and I are planning on taking our 14 year old son on a trip along the Oregon Coast. We will be camping.
I have found some fantastic resources online. Currently, I'm trying to plan the drive between Cape Depoe Bay and Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park.
Any advice would be welcome!

PLAN:
"Book 9:30am surfing lessons at Cape Kiwanda. Stay at the beach for a few hours. Then head 50 minutes south to Depoe Bay for a late lunch around 2:00. Then drive along the Otter Crest Loop through Yachats to Jessie M Honeyman State Park."

I don't have a lot of information for the drive from Depoe Bay to Jessie M Honeyman State Park. We have allotted 3 hours in the afternoon for this drive.

Question 1: Is the Otter Crest Loop on the main highway? If not, where do we exit?
Question 2: Is Yachats along this route? How long should we expect to stay? What should we plan to see?
Question 3: Any other suggestions to add to this day?

Thanks in advance!

The Otter Crest Loop is only 4.2 miles. http://coastexplorermagazine.com/fea...way-101-page-4
Spend at least 10 minutes at the Devil's Punchbowl.
South of Newport after crossing the big bridge, stop to see the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
FYI: Yachats is pronounced ya-HOTS.
There are many Oregon State Parks that have yurts. It is a little easier to check out of a yurt in the rain than it is to take down a wet tent to move to the next stop.

My favorite beach is Devils Elbow ( also known as Heceta Head). It's a nice little cove, there are a couple of caves to explore, and a nice trail up to one of the most photographed lighthouses in the US.
In my opinion, you could easily spend 1/2 a day there. You should at least walk up to the lighthouse.
It is between Yachats and Florence.

In Newport it is fun to watch the sea lions on the docks in Old Town on the bay.

Your son might enjoy the Sandboard Park in Florence and the dune buggy rides south of Florence. Also horse back riding on the beach north of Florence. I think it's called M&M Stables.

There is a website The Oregon Coast- Mile by Mile. You could also order a paper copy. Lists just about everything to do on the coast
