Drive the coast from San Fran to L.A.?
Greetings,
I would like to experience the drive on the cosat with my wife from San Fransico to Los Angeles.
Where do you reccomend we stop and stay on the drive.
We are going from Dec.24- Jan.3, is there a town in particluar that you would reccomend to stay for New Years Eve.
What is the weather like? Should we rent a convertible?
Thank you all!

You're kidding - temps are usually in the 50s and it could be very windy, foggy, cloudy, etc.
See a post initiated a few days ago about a drive from LA to SF to get some answers to your questions. Click on my name to find it.

I would definitely nix the convertible idea. You might have nice clear weather, but it wont be warm. And the visibility in a convertible with the top up is low.
With the time you have, I would spend a couple days in the Monterey/Carmel area and a couple days around Cambria. Maybe a couple more in Big Sur or Santa Barbara, depending on what you are looking for - ie woods or civilization.
I don't have any recommendations about where to spend NYE though.

Depends what you're into. Cambria is very nice but not much to do unless you want a romantic dinners. It's very quaint. If your into California Missions, I believe La Purisima near Vandemburg is the nicest. It's still out in the boonies and has that rustic feel to it. Expect a lot of fog.
