Drive from West Palm to Ft Myers, FL?
.
Is anyone familiar with the South Florida/East-West highways... from West Palm on 441 to 80 (passing thru Belle Glade) to Ft Myers?
Is this a very long way to go? are they around 35mph the whole way?
Or would it be better to drive south to Ft Lauderdale and take 75 (Alligator Alley?)to Naples and then up to Ft Myers?
Any local help appreciated!

I live in Naples, FL. I find the most efficient and direct route (Fort Myers and south FL area) is to travel on Alligator Alley (75).
Rout 80 is often a two lane, slow traffic when congested road. Alligator Alley is 70 mph, flows freely. Take West Palm to Sawgrass Express Way, that feeds into 75.
And look out for the wonderful wildlife, still visible sometimes even though 75 is a major highway. We can do Naples to West Palm in 2-1/2 hrs or less. Tack on 1/2 to go onto Fort Myers from Naples.

I would suggest the Alligator Alley route as well. Nice wide highway. 441 to SR 80 and across is a narrow, two lane road. When it is clear, traffic travels at a very scary pace (nothing like passing a semi at 90mph within several feet to keep you awake). When it is congested, or when there is an accident, it stops and there is no way to get around it.
Definitely I-75.

Been on both Alligator Alley and 80. You can get there faster on 75 but with little scenery, (you spend more time keeping an eye on the road at 75mph). On 80 you will go slower but if you are not in a hurry, it is more scenic. Yes it is a 2 laner but if yo are into rbbernecking, take 80 and enjoy the view.
