Drive from San Francisco to Las Vegas
Hello,
My partner and I are planning a trip to San Francisco in May. We are thinking of driving from SF to Las Vegas and were wondering if anyone could recommend the best places to stay/ things to see on the way? We have about 4 nights to play with and then when we get to Vegas spending 3 nights there.
Thankyou in advance.

How long were you staying in San Francisco?
After you have seen Yosemite, take the car back to SFO and fly to Las Vegas and rent another car there to go see Hoover Dam and maybe the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The flight for 2 will probably be cheaper than a night in a San Francisco hotel.
If you were thinking of Death Valley, be aware that it rained there last month and there were some road closures due to flooding.
I don't know when the Tioga Pass out of Yosemite will be opened.

There is no way at this point to know if the road will be open or not -- probably not.
Unless this is in very late May you won't be able to cross the mountains through Yosemite (and even in late May the road very likely will still be closed -- we are having very heavy snow year and it could be late June before the road opens)
The three other ways to get to Vegas would be going to Lake Tahoe and then down either 395 or south through pretty desolate parts of Nevada, south to Bakersfield and across - a route that has no redeeming features, or down the coast and across through southern California.
Your choice if you want to spend 4 days in the Sierra foothills and at Tahoe or along the coast . . . or just fly to Vegas and spend those 4 days maybe exploring the Utah National Parks.
