Drive from Grand Canyon to Prescott next week

We are visiting Northern Arizona next week and staying two nights in Sedona before spending a night at El Tovar. Looking for people who have done the drive from the South Rim to Prescott...how long does that take this time of year and any recommendations for places to stay in or around Prescott? Thank you!

Forgot to mention that my husband doesn't want to drive more than 2 hours that day so we can spend more time at the canyon. Trying to figure out a good alternative to Sedona for that night, but he is concerned that Prescott will be too far. Thanks again.

Where are you headed after the one night in Prescott? It's 2 hours and 15 minutes according to Google maps.

The two alternates that come to mind are Flagstaff and Williams. Are you just looking for a place to spend the night or are you looking for something to do while in town?

Prescott should be just a few minutes over 2 hours. Lodging will probably much less expensive than Sedona, if that matters.

Ideally,we want something to do/see for that night. We had family members who enjoyed Prescott, so that was the first thought, but what could we see/do in Williams or Flagstaff? Thanks!

Prescott has a beautiful downtown... a magnificent courthouse with trees all around, a charming downtown with shops and restaurants. Our favorite for dinner is Papa's Italian right on Cortez streetm their red pepper cream sauce is amazing on the ravioli!

There are many hotels but I think I would choose the historic Hassayaump Hotel or there is a new bed and breakfast right downtown across from the courthouse whose name is escaping me now. From either of those you could walk everywhere. We like to grab a coffee after dinner and window shop.

We drove from Prescott to the GC last summer and it wasn't bad at all but i guess that is up to your husbands preference.

Realistically you're going in the off-season so you're not going to find a lot of nighttime activities, especially mid-week.

I'm sure you could find live music at a bar in any of those 3 towns, whether it's any good is the question. If you just want to eat and walk around, any of those would work as well.

Flagstaff has Lowell Observatory which may or may not be open at night depending on the day of the week you are there. It's also home to Northern Arizona University, you could check their website to see if there are any events the evening you'll be there.
