Downtown Seattle - looking for geoducks

I will be in Seattle for a few days pre and post a family cruise to Alaska in the next couple of weeks. Staying in the downtown area and we will not have a car.

I am very interested in trying geoduck, something I have never had the opportunity to try before. I am wondering if this is easily found in eateries around the Pike Place Market area - I have a day set aside to wander around there and am hoping to find a stall that serves it (I would like to try sashimi style as well as cooked). A restaurant is fine too, probably for lunch.

Any help locating the "king of clams" is greatly appreciated!

Geoduck is in today's Seattle news. Perhaps the author of the following article can tell you where to dine: http://seattletimes.com/html/localne...eoduck22m.html

His address is: [email protected]

HTTY

PS I ate geoduck once. It was tough and chewy, but I was dining in Ocean Shores (on the WA coast) where they may not know how to prepare the delicacy properly.

I know you can see it at the fish stalls at The Market. Don't know where it's on the menu though. Perhaps the fish mongers could make a suggestion?

Thanks for the replies - I have been doing a bunch of Googling and was able to find a place that appears to serve geoduck and it is just a short walk from our hotel - Taylor Shellfish Farms on Melrose. Yelp reviews indicate they also serve it sashimi style, so hoping that's the case when I'm there.

It appears to be primarily a seafood market but one that has a small area to eat in. Lucky for me it's open early, as the other restaurants that I looked into that might have served geoduck were only open for dinner.

Taylor Shellfish Farms is an up-scale place in the newish Melrose Market, which has other similarly-oriented shops: http://melrosemarketseattle.com/

Since their geoduck is farm raised, it should be available during your visit.

Our Penn Cove mussels are another local treat.

Across the street from Taylor Shellfish is another stylish place, Mamnoon, which serves the food of Lebanon and Syria: http://www.mamnoonrestaurant.com/

These places are less than a half mile from 5th and Pine (Nordstrom)--an easy uphill walk for most folks.

Thanks for the additional info HTTY - the cheese shop looks very interesting and I'll definitely check that out.

Mamnoon looks good too - my problem is there are so many great restaurants to try and not enough time. Maybe I can squeeze it in on another day for lunch, I do like Lebanese food and don't have the opportunity to have it often.
