Down to three New York City hotels for December visit

Jump to last reply

After doing A LOT of looking, I'm down to three hotels for our pre-Christmas visit. We plan to arrive the Saturday before Christmas (working around a college student schedule) and stay three or four nights, depending on airfares. Our family of four visited NYC ten years ago in June and stayed at The Blakely Hotel. The Blakely (W. 55th) is still in the mix, along with two others - San Carlos Hotel (E. 50th) and The Refinery (W. 38th). As well as visiting places we missed last time and go to a show, we plan to do Christmasy things: window decorations, ice skating, and the Rockettes.

From the pictures, the decorating style of The Blakely is the same as our previous visit, the San Carlos Hotel seems to be a neutral style and The Refinery looks more contemporary. All three have similiar reviews, with The Refinery edging out the San Carlos Hotel and The Blakely. Depending on the room choice, refundable room rates for four nights at the San Carlos Hotel are either $1555 or $1843 (nonrefundable rates are $1244 or $1480). The Refinery rates are either $1501 or $1684. The Blakely rates are $2127.

Do you have any thoughts? It would be amazing if someone had experience with all three, but you never know. If it's a "wash", that's good to know, too. Whichever one we pick, we'll bring our snow boots! Thank you.
