Hubby is working Osh Kosh and we want to take time after the show to go to Door County (2 adt/3 chd)..and Door County is sold out.
Would like a resort on lake that the kids can swim in..and also kayaking. Is the Dells too tacky?..and Lake Geneva?..Don't want a tourist trap! Anyplace else worth considering ?..we are flying into/out of Milwaukee and can drive up to 2 hours to get to where we need to be.
*thanks*
Door County sold out..now where should I go??

Are you talking about the EAA (OshKosh)? What dates? Assume you've gone to the main Door County Visitor Bureau site? www.DoorCounty.com
All of Door COunty is sold out? Yikes!
The Dells can be the epitome of tacky, but, if you focus on the natural beauty, it can also be lovely. We've enjoyed both the lower and upper boar trips and seeing Bennett's studio.
Lake Geneva is ot as jammed with tacky shops, but it does attract a lot of visitors. We've liked walking around the lake and looking at all the mansions, as well as the boat ride on the Lake.
Yes..he is working the EAA. He is free on Aug 2. We've just waited too late to book Door County. Most 2bed/2bath sold out.
I really would rather stay away from Lake Geneva and the Dells. I've googled around and found a place called Elkart Lake..will also see if anything in Green Bay-ish.
I know they often have 2 night minimums but we've always managed to find a vacancy somewhere in Door County, especially in this slow economy. Did you try farther up the peninsula? There are 2 large places in Sister Bay.One is the Birchwood Lodge and the other is the Scandinavian Lodge.
There are also some smaller motels on the lake side near Baileys Harbor that you might try. The lake side is often less busy than some of the bay side communities.
Good luck.
Elkhart Lake is a very nice area offering a variety of activities. It is home of Road America (race) so can be very busy in the summer months.
Also located near the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Park. Easy drive to Milwaukee.
Just noticed that you'd like to be no more than 2hrs. from Mitchell Field.
Door County is 3+ hours and if you're driving south on a Sunday it could be a longer drive.
